Hi - If you want to learn how to stop smoking without difficulty I think I can help. My name is Bill, and I'm an ex-smoker. I quit smoking about 15 years ago, and as I remember, back when I smoked, there were just many things I didn't like about smoking. I wanted to quit.

There were mainly 2 things that were holding me back from quitting sooner.


The first one was worrying whether or not I'd be successful, because I didn't want to seem like a failure to people, especially to my family.


I think the second thing was that I worried about how hard it would be. How difficult would it be for me to quit smoking? Could I stop smoking without difficulty?


So, if you're a smoker, let me ask you a question. First of all, what's keeping you as a smoker? What parts of smoking do you like the most? I mean, is it that you enjoy spending a lot of money on buying cigarettes every week and not having cash available to buy other things?


That concept wasn't for me, and it's much more expensive now. I didn’t like paying all that extra money in taxes either. I didn't like to literally pay so much money, only to watch it go up in smoke.


Do you like it when everybody else at work is inside your building, and you're standing a hundred feet away by an ashtray, and it's windy, and it's rainy, and you're puffing away trying to get that cigarette done at the end of your lunch break, to get back in time.


Is that the part that you like about smoking?


Now if you really don't like any of these parts about smoking, and you're thinking that you might want to quit, then several things probably go through your mind.


First of all, if I tell everybody that I'm going to stop smoking, and that's always a good thing because you want support from the people in your life every day - BUT - you tell them and you don’t quit, or you quit and begin smoking again, then you look foolish and will be reluctant to try again in the future.


Second, it’s natural to feel that you have more control and can back out of quitting at the last minute if you are the only one that knows. Even though this is enticing, those closest to you should know your intentions to quit so they can support you when the time actually comes.


If you feel like a quitter, you probably think less of yourself and have less self-confidence. This might even stop you from trying to stop smoking another time because you don't just want to keep feeling like you couldn't quit. Having a support network that cares about you, either way, is important.


As a smoker, it’s a pretty big step to decide to stop smoking. To decide to stop smoking without difficulty will be easier with a mentor that you can trust, that has been in your shoes and has successfully stopped smoking cigarettes.


When you smoke, do you remember what it felt like when you were a non-smoker, which you were at some point in your life before that first cigarette? When you were younger, you certainly weren't dependent on nicotine.

How often do you check to see if you have a cigarette and lighter or matches? Do you have enough for the rest of the day? Do you have enough for tomorrow morning? Do you have enough for work tomorrow, and tomorrow night, and on and on and on?


Ok, so by now you're sitting back as a smoker and saying okay, my life is difficult now as a smoker, but it's going to be much more difficult to quit. That's probably what a lot of smokers weigh out before they absolutely make the decision to quit smoking.


How hard, or how difficult will it be? I am not an expert at chemicals, and I have no background in it, or anything like that, but the general rule of thumb (that you can find is all over the Internet) would be that it generally takes about a day for the nicotine cravings to go away when somebody quits smoking.


That is basically what I felt when I stopped smoking cigarettes.


There are also a few crucial steps to take before quitting smoking that certainly helped me. I cover these in the program I developed, which is discussed more below. Doing this in order ahead of time makes the process less difficult, at least in my opinion.


There is a critical step in my opinion that most people miss before they stop smoking. I think this part really sets somebody up for success, not failure. 


If you're very concerned about the difficulty, or how hard it will be to quit smoking, and how you'll feel, I think the best thing to do is to find a plan and let somebody lead that there's already quit smoking. Plus, find out what the critical step is to stop smoking without difficulty.


When I quit about 15 years ago, I wrote down everything that I did to prepare to stop smoking, I wrote down how I felt, and I wrote down what worked.
