How to Stop Smoking Addiction

 

Do you want to learn how to stop smoking addiction? If so, I think I might be able to help. My name is Bill I'm an ex-smoker, so when I speak about how to stop smoking, I speak from experience.

I actually quit smoking about 15 years ago, which I'm very proud of. I was a smoker for many years, and I understand just how difficult it is when you're a smoker. However, keep this in mind - there are two sides to the whole process.

If you want to stop smoking, so you can quit the addiction, you are in the right place!


How to Stop Smoking Addiction

When you're a smoker, you have all the difficulties and the inconveniences, not to mention the risks. 


There are health risks, for example. 


You have monetary risks, because the cost of smoking is getting so expensive, and the taxes are so high, that smokers may put other things in their life at risk.


Smokers know that their “need” to buy cigarettes raises up on the scale over other expenses. Smokers may not even pay a bill because they need to get cigarettes, so there are risks involved with not paying bills due to cigarette purchases.


Then there are all the obvious health risks involved. Smokers get lung cancer to a higher degree than non-smokers, and many many other illnesses as well.


We all know that smoking is not good, in the sense you've got all the stress of just smoking!


For example when you finish one cigarette, 15 to 20 minutes later, you're starting to think about your next cigarette.


If you are going into a situation where you can't readily smoke (for example you're at work, you're in a car pool, you're in a movie theater, you're at a bowling alley, you're in a shopping mall) - all these things start to make you worry. 


Where and when am I going to have my next cigarette? 


Can you see how all of this adds stress to your life?


Smoking has a negative impact on your health because you've got all the stresses and problems involved with being a smoker.


The second part of all of this is that you also have all the problems and stresses involved with the question: “What would it be like if I quit smoking?” 


What will you go through? How hard will it be to stop smoking? Will it be scary to stop the addiction? How long will it be for? Of course, that's from the nicotine primarily - but it's also a habit, so that's important to think about too.


People worry that they don't want to go through withdrawal. You will not go through withdrawal like a drug addict, but you definitely will feel urges and find your mind sort of “battling itself” to go back to smoking.


You may worry and think that if you tell everybody that you’re going to stop smoking, and then you can't, how does that make you look?


Is it better to tell no one in your network, but then there is no one to support you when you quit?


I'm here to tell you that there are methods that I think will increase the likelihood of a smoker being successful in quitting smoking. I don't advocate that people should just constantly try to quit smoking. I believe a person should find a mentor that has already successfully quit smoking, make a plan, get committed, choose a timeframe and simply become an ex-smoker!


Don’t simply quit today out of the blue, and if it doesn’t work, wait 3 months and do the same unsuccessful plan

 all over again.


Make sure that you are ready to quit smoking. Don’t just say “maybe I'll wait till the new year, or I'll wait till my birthday or any number of other excuses”.


I just suggest that people get very focused, they consider all the negatives, difficulties, and all stresses, and problems, that smoking causes them.


Instead envision how so much of that goes away as a non-smoker. 




There are also a few crucial steps to take before quitting smoking that certainly helped me. I cover these in the program that I developed which is talked about more below. Doing this in order ahead of time makes the process less difficult, at least in my opinion.


There is a critical step in my opinion that most people miss before they stop smoking. I think this part really sets somebody up for success, not failure. 


If you're very concerned about the difficulty, or how hard it will be to quit smoking, and how you'll feel, I think the best thing to do is to find a plan and let somebody lead that there's already quit smoking. Plus, find out what the critical step is to stop smoking without difficulty.


When I quit about 15 years ago, I wrote down everything that I did to prepare to stop smoking, I wrote down how I felt, and I wrote down what worked.
